Promoting green leisure activities, this event aims to provide the public with water-based recreational opportunities during holidays, increase participation in water sports, cultivate a habit of water leisure activities, promote safety awareness in water activities, and enhance knowledge of water activity safety. It is hoped that citizens from all walks of life will join in.

This experience event is commissioned to National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (Department of Marine Recreation Management), whose team has extensive experience in water recreation activities. The coaches employed have professional certifications and years of practical experience. The event includes necessary pre-entry safety education, operational skill instruction, and on-water experience, along with the provision of essential safety gear such as life jackets with whistles and helmets.

Tourism Bureau Director Chen Jun-an pointed out that since the merger of the county and city, water-based recreational activities have been one of the key policy projects promoted by the Tourism Bureau. In recent years, the bureau has completed surveys of local water bodies, assessments of water quality and conditions, and the formulation and announcement of relevant regulations. It has also regularly organized various water recreation experience events during the summer holidays, and this year marks the fourth consecutive year. Therefore, building on past achievements and experience, the “2014 Canoe Festival” has been specially launched, with the Sicao Green Tunnel chosen as the starting venue to promote the city’s diverse eco-friendly, healthy, low-carbon, and water-friendly tourism activities. In this oceanic nation and water-loving city, the bureau is promoting the tourist appeal of water recreation and inviting visitors from all over to Tainan to enjoy a slow-paced, leisurely light travel experience.
