2014 Gongliao International Marine Music Festival in New Taipei City
This weekend’s biggest event in northern Taiwan is none other than the Gongliao Marine Music Festival. This year marks the 15th edition of the Gongliao Sea Festival, with the theme “come together.” The festival’s charm was so strong that even a typhoon joined in. Though Typhoon Rumbia did not make landfall in Taiwan, the Fulong coastline and on-site facilities were still affected by wind and waves. Prioritizing public safety, the New Taipei City Government Tourism Bureau postponed the original schedule by one day, holding the five-day marathon music extravaganza from July 10 (Thursday) to July 14 (Monday).

July 12 (Saturday) features the highlight of the Marine Music Festival — the “Marine Independent Music Awards.” In addition to the top 10 competing bands vying for the highest honor, the event also invites “Hillside & Children” and “FLUX,” the 2013 “Marine Stars”; “Dark White Collar Class,” the 2013 “Jury’s Grand Prize Winner”; “TRASH,” the 2013 “Marine Independent Music Awards” winner; and headliner Crowd Lu, the festival’s senior alumnus, to deliver a closing performance, symbolizing the passing on of the festival spirit. On July 13, the theme is “Rock Across the Seas,” representing music without borders and opportunities for bands to learn and exchange through music. The lineup includes Australia’s Elliot the Bull, Sweden’s Her Bright Skies, India’s Indian Ocean, Madagascar’s Kilema, Canada’s Your Favorite Enemies, and Taiwanese rock diva a MEI as the closing act. This year’s festival has big names every day and exciting performances all around — definitely not to be missed！
2014Nantou Train Festival
The annual Nantou Train Festival, which began in 2007, has become a highly anticipated summer event for many. The 2014 Nantou Train Festival will grandly open on July 13 (Sunday)！This year, in addition to inviting well-known local figures and artists to paint trains, showcasing different views of Jiji, the Nantou County Government has also specially invited the popular children’s picture book “Little Bear School,” with its twelve bear characters as guests, encouraging both kids and adults to join the bears for a fun-filled summer vacation and an exciting journey through Nantou.

Each year at the Nantou Train Festival, classic steam trains are a major draw for train fans. This year, visitors who stay at any licensed accommodation in Nantou during the event period can ride for free. Riding a steam train through the scenic Jiji area is sure to be a unique experience. Photography enthusiasts who capture content related to the 2014 Nantou Train Festival have a chance to win a cash prize of NT$10,000. Families visiting with children during the holiday can also sing and dance with popular entertainers like Banana Brother and Rainbow Sister. Luckier visitors might even meet the mini train conductor stars, Little Mark, and the youngest twin hosts Lele & Z??? who will invite everyone aboard the train for a ride, offering souvenirs, snacks, and showcasing the area’s unique features.
Tainan Qigu Sightseeing Clam Garden Invites You to “Dig for Clams and Wash Your Pants”
Organized by the Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau, co-hosted by the Taijiang National Park Headquarters and the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Coastal National Scenic Area Administration, and hosted by the Qigu District Office, the “Tainan Qigu Seafood Festival” kicks off on July 12 (Saturday) at Liukeng Pier with the “Qigu Sightseeing Clam Garden & Clam Digging Experience.” The day also features the Sanci Agricultural and Fisheries Specialty Cultural Festival, Taijiang Water Recreation Experience Activities, a specialty seafood market, and sightseeing boat rides.
