The Panda Pop-up event has traveled around the world. The original idea came from WWF France in 2008 to celebrate its 35th anniversary and promote wildlife conservation. French artist Paulo Grangeon was invited to create an installation art piece in the shape of pandas, launching the “Pandas on Tour” exhibition in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It received an overwhelming response, kicking off the European tour of “Pandas on Tour,” with sightings of the panda army in over 30 major European city squares.

The “Pandas on Tour” exhibition features 1600 paper-cut pandas. The number 1600 represents the current global population of wild pandas, aiming to let the public experience the crisis of pandas facing extinction and to understand the importance of wildlife conservation. In addition to the 1600 pandas, this Taiwan pop-up event also specially includes 200 Formosan black bears to encourage Taiwanese people to pay more attention to local conservation issues, showing care for the wildlife living together on this precious island.

Each panda in the 1600 Panda Pop-up event is a unique work of art. Made with recycled paper as the material and natural rice paste for bonding and shaping, each panda is handcrafted paper by paper and painted stroke by stroke to resemble a panda. From July 19 to July 20, the pandas will be displayed at the large field in Zhongxing New Village from 9 AM to 6 PM daily. Admission is completely free—welcome everyone to come see the pandas!
