2014Yilan Children’s Folklore and Folkgame Festival
The Yilan Children’s Folklore and Folkgame Festival has become a major annual summer event in Taiwan. The festival runs until August 24th, with the main venue at the Dongshan River Water Park in Yilan. The park will feature a Global Handicrafts and Cultural Creative Market characterized by exotic flair, cultural and creative handicrafts, and interactive experiences, aiming to add an international and artistic touch to the festival. Additionally, there will be refreshing water play facilities, as well as spectacular performances and exchanges by domestic and international troupes, ensuring unforgettable summer memories for both adults and children.

The festival offers a rich and exciting array of activities, including performances by children’s folk music and dance troupes from five continents and diverse performance groups from across Taiwan, all gathering on the world stage of the Children’s Folklore and Folkgame Festival to make friends through dance. Street performers will also roam the venue during performance hours, bringing endless surprises. With numerous domestic and international performance groups—over 20 foreign troupes from Japan, Mexico, Russia, Indonesia, South Korea, Bulgaria, and more—alongside local acts such as FOCA – Formosa Circus Art, Lanyang Drama Troupe, Nine Songs Children’s Theater, Lanyang Wind Orchestra, and the Huilan Beibu Elementary School Dance Team, the program is diverse, abundant, and thrillingly entertaining. Kaohsiung Marine Festival – Seafood, Music, and Beer Fun Together
The Kaohsiung Marine Festival officially kicked off on July 19 at Banana Pier, bringing together music, seafood, and beer in Kaohsiung. Starting at 10:00 AM, free limited samples of fried squid and beer tasting were offered to ignite the first wave of excitement for the marine festival. At 6:00 PM, the “103rd National Fishermen’s Day Award Ceremony” hosted by variety show queen Bai Bingbing featured a star-studded lineup of Golden Melody Award winners, including Taiwanese music legend Wen Xia and Wen Xiang, 2007 Best Mandarin Male Singer Shi Wenbin, this year’s Golden Melody Best Taiwanese Male Singer Chen Jianwei, Singapore Golden Melody Award-winning band MP Magic Power, and popular online celebrity Douhua Mei. Five megastars delivered electrifying performances. Visitors are welcome to enjoy Kaohsiung’s fresh seafood and watch performances by Golden Melody artists.

The Kaohsiung Marine Festival is held in conjunction with National Fishermen’s Day to showcase the city’s maritime image and seafood specialties. From 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, the Marine Bureau has specially set up the “Kaohsiung Seafood Street” at Banana Pier, inviting 60 vendors from seven district fishermen’s associations in Greater Kaohsiung and premium agricultural and fishery businesses to join in the celebration. A variety of interactive experiences are also offered, including visits to coast guard vessels, shore patrol interaction camps, and activities hosted by institutions such as the Kaohsiung Science and Technology Museum. The Forestry Bureau has even arranged for visitors to exchange two receipts from the month for one sapling—don’t miss out.
