The Peninsula Bangkok is preparing to celebrate Loy Krathong on Thursday, November 6, with a grand celebration evening by the Chao Phraya River. The origins of Loy Krathong come from the Thai tradition of releasing krathongs—floating offerings—to pay gratitude to the water goddess. Nowadays, many Thais craft intricate krathongs from lotus flowers or banana leaves, placing a candle and incense inside before floating them on the river to ward off misfortune and make wishes.

The Loy Krathong celebration evening at The Peninsula Bangkok will offer guests a selection of gourmet delicacies, live music, and captivating puppetry performances by award-winning troupe Joe Louis Theatre. All attendees of the celebration can also create their own unique personalized krathong—from preparing the materials and constructing the floating raft to decorating it—immersing themselves in the full experience. Guests may also release their krathongs onto the Chao Phraya River from the hotel’s private pier.
On Loy Krathong night, whether in the city or countryside, wherever there are rivers or lakes, the water will be dotted with floating krathongs glowing with candlelight, reflecting the joyful silhouettes of couples, all set to the fragrance of flowers and the cheerful melodies of “krathong floating” songs, creating a festive atmosphere.
