Okayama is known as the Land of Sunshine (晴れの国), with more sunny days than any other prefecture in Japan. Its Seto Inland Sea-type mild climate has earned it a reputation as a fruit kingdom, where a variety of temperate fruits are available throughout the year, particularly renowned for its white peaches and Muscat grapes.

The peak season for white peaches is from late June to August every year. This year, from Friday, August 15 to Sunday, August 17, Okayama Prefecture in Japan is specially air-freighting freshly harvested Okayama white peaches to the “Fresh Mart” supermarket on the B2 floor of the Taipei City East District’s Pacific Sogo Department Store Zhongxiao Branch for a three-day special sales event.Tastings of the white peaches will also be available on-site, along with cute Momotaro-themed gifts for visitors.

Besides tasting the fragrant and sweet premium white peaches, you can also visit one of Japan Okayama Prefecture’s three famous gardens, “Korakuen Garden,” and “Okayama Castle,” also known as “Crow Castle,” which offers a limited-time nighttime illumination event in the summer. The “Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter,” designated as an Important Traditional Buildings Preservation District, is another must-visit spot, famous for its willow-lined Kurashiki River and white-walled buildings that make for perfect photo backdrops. Additionally, at “Kibitsu Shrine,” the origin of the Momotaro legend, you can experience the unique “Narukama Shinji” (Bell-Ringing Divination Ritual).

Japan Okayama Prefecture also welcomes Taiwanese travelers to fly to Okayama, with one round-trip flight each on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Okayama Airport is just a 30-minute drive from the city center. Taking the shinkansen (bullet train) from Okayama to Osaka takes only about 50 minutes as well. The convenient transportation saves you from the fatigue of long journeys.
