30,000 hydrangeas bloom along a cedar forest – a stunning hidden flower-viewing spot in Iwate, Japan

In Ichinoseki City, northeastern Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, there is a “hydrangea secret garden” hidden within a cedar forest. The approximately 2-kilometer-long walking path takes around 30 minutes to stroll through. Nearly 30,000 hydrangeas unfold around you, surrounded by towering cedar trees, creating a deep and romantic scene that feels like stepping into a Studio Ghibli movie.

The “hydrangea secret garden” is not only romantic but also offers a mysterious vibe for photos. According to the administrators of the fan page “Enjoy Iwate,” this spot only blooms for about one month each year. The flowers are in full bloom and the area is open to visitors from late June to early July. It is a well-known “hydrangea viewing spot” in northeastern Japan. Interested travelers can plan a visit during early summer.
