The renowned Taiwanese souvenir pineapple cake shop “Lii Chi,” after weathering an edible oil safety controversy and the post-Mid-Autumn Festival refund wave, reopened on September 24. Early in the morning, a whole row of flower baskets lined up outside to cheer Lii Chi on, and many SNG news vans were parked outside ready to cover the event. Numerous locals and overseas tourists also waited for Lii Chi’s grand reopening.

After the edible oil issue, Lii Chi issued a statement saying, “We have come to understand that food safety cannot be guaranteed by a single certificate alone. It requires more detailed observation and comparison. We need to think not only about how to ensure quality from the bakery’s perspective but also to select ingredients from the consumer’s point of view. After all, what we put into our bodies cannot be taken lightly—it has nothing to do with profit, but is the most basic and simple daily necessity.”
For this relaunch on September 24, Lii Chi first introduced the Sun Cake, symbolizing the rising sun, full of sunshine and hope. Other products will be gradually reintroduced. Lii Chi, famous for its mung bean cakes, also sees its pineapple cakes as a popular souvenir among many overseas tourists. Although pineapple cakes were not yet available today, it still attracted quite a line of customers—a good new beginning for Lii Chi.
