This year’s 2014 National Day fireworks have moved to Taichung, with fireworks displays every day over the three-day holiday. The first two days will be held at the Taichung Harbor area, while the third day is set for the Shuinan Economic and Trade Park. Conservative estimates predict the three-day event will attract 1.2 million visitors and generate at least NT$1.2 billion in business. This year’s National Day fireworks in the Taichung Harbor area were announced following a preparatory meeting held by the city government the day before. This year’s theme is “Blooming Joy and Blessings,” with a 40-minute fireworks show planned for National Day evening, followed by a concert featuring popular singers Crowd Lu, Lala Hsu, and Lin Yu-chun, and closing with electronic music diva Jolin Tsai.

The city government emphasized that there will also be a 15-minute fireworks show on the night after National Day to keep the festive spirit going. The second day’s fireworks were funded through donations, with both the 10th and 11th displays taking place atthe Taichung Harbor Thermal Power Plant, northeast of the large chimney. Both the Qingshui Rest Stop and the Aofengshan Observation Deck are excellent spots to view the fireworks.On the third day,the Shuinan Economic and Trade Parkwill host fireworks originally planned for Taipei’s Dadaocheng but canceled due to the Kaohsiung gas explosions and later donated by Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je. During the National Day holiday, visitors will be able to enjoy spectacular fireworks in Taichung for three consecutive days.

Regarding transportation — a major concern for visitors — Lin Liang-tai, Director of the Taichung City Government Transportation Bureau, stated that the transport plan during the fireworks event includes:
● The BRT system will deploy all 50 BRT buses. Travel time from Taichung Railway Station to Providence University is about 45–50 minutes, with an average of one or two buses per minute. Passengers can take the BRT to Providence University and then transfer to a shuttle bus to the Taichung Harbor fireworks area.
