In response to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, which are expected to bring a large influx of international visitors, Tokyo’s Haneda Airport plans to rename its current “International Terminal” to the “Third Terminal” starting from March 2020. The names of related train and monorail stations will also be changed accordingly. Travelers planning to visit Tokyo next year should take note to avoid boarding the wrong terminal.

Haneda Airport, the closest to central Tokyo, has three terminals. Currently, the “First Terminal” and “Second Terminal” handle domestic flights, while the third terminal, the “International Terminal,” manages international flights.

With a surge in international passengers due to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, additional international flights are needed. Starting in March next year, the Second Terminal will have its customs and immigration facilities upgraded to accommodate international flights.
