The power of images transcends language and words. National Geographic and Wheelock Properties have once again jointly organized an international photography competition. With the support of “Harbour City Art Gallery” and Harbour City, the exhibition of winning works from the “2018 National Geographic Wheelock Hong Kong Photography Competition” provides a platform for photographers aged 16 and above in Hong Kong to showcase their outstanding work on an international stage, while also presenting the beauty of Hong Kong to the world in a more eye-catching way.

The theme of the “2018 National Geographic Wheelock Hong Kong Photography Competition” is “Hong Kong Stories”. The competition is divided into four categories: “Nature”, “City”, “People”, and “Mobile Photography”. This year, over 4,000 entries were received, including submissions from both amateur photography enthusiasts and professional photographers, making the competition highly competitive. Participants came not only from Hong Kong, but also from Macau, Taiwan, Mainland China, as well as 19 other countries and regions including Italy, Spain, the United States, and Canada.
The judging panel was composed of Fritz Hoffmann, a photography master from National Geographic in the United States, renowned Hong Kong nature and ecology photographer So Yik-hung, and Li Wing-shik, the Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese edition of National Geographic.
Fritz Hoffmann said that nowadays almost anyone can be a photographer, but the ways of taking photos still vary widely. Some submitted photos stood out due to their technical level, but ultimately, those that won recognition were distinguished by the photographer’s unique visual interpretation.
