With temperatures dropping sharply, it’s the season for maple leaves to change color. Now is the perfect time to visit Daxueshan Mountain to admire the fiery foliage. The maple leaves are at their most vibrant in mid-December, with various other changing plants such as Taiwan red maple, green maple, sweet gum, and pointed-leaf maple, transforming the once emerald-green forest into a mountain covered in golden and crimson hues.

The maple leaves are at their most vibrant in mid-December, with various other changing plants such as Taiwan red maple, green maple, sweet gum, and pointed-leaf maple, transforming the once emerald-green forest into a mountain covered in golden and crimson hues.

Daxueshan Forest Recreation Area is located in Heping District, Taichung City. A one-hour drive from Dongshi allows you to enjoy the blazing red leaves that blanket the mountains. The changing plants across the mountain gradually begin their transformation starting in December. Currently, the degree of color change varies by area, reaching about 30%, and will become even more vivid and colorful with this week’s cold front.

Starting from the 20-kilometer mark on the Daxueshan Forest Road, layers of crimson leaves dot the path. At the 35-kilometer toll station, Xiaolai Mountain Trail, the 43-kilometer Visitor Center, and the 49-kilometer Little Snow Mountain area, the striking red maple views are particularly breathtaking. In addition, it is currently the cloud sea season in Daxueshan. The drifting sea of clouds among the mountains, surging and ever-changing, with the touch of red from the maple leaves reflecting off the clouds and sunset, creates a poetic and picturesque romantic scene just waiting for visitors to capture.
