Go camping and watch fireflies at Wenshan Farm, where tiny lights sparkle

The firefly season at Wenshan Farm in Xindian District, New Taipei City, has arrived earlier than scheduled. Originally set to kick off on April 21, the event has been moved up to the 11th due to climate changes. The Wenshan Farm Firefly Season activities now run from the 11th, allowing visitors in the Greater Taipei area to enjoy the beautiful sight of fireflies without traveling far.

Wenshan Farm is located in Quchi Village, Xindian District, New Taipei City, along the route to Wulai Scenic Area. During the Japanese colonial period, it served as Taiwan’s tea guidance center and has a history of over 100 years. After mid-March each year, the farm is covered with golden fields of lupine flowers, heralding the arrival of spring and setting the stage for the firefly season in April and May. Starting in the evening, fireflies can be spotted in shaded corners of the farm, along walking trails, in the camping area, and near the tea fields. This year, the Mi Ling An Indigenous tribe has also been invited to organize “The Night’s Spirit—A Firefly Music Story,” encouraging everyone to join in firefly conservation efforts and adding more fun to nighttime farm experiences.

If you plan to visit Wenshan Farm to watch fireflies, it is recommended to also join one of the farm’s organized one-day or two-day camping and firefly-watching tours. Spend the night on the farm, camp under the starry sky, stargaze, watch fireflies, and enjoy an early summer “firefly” party with tribal music. To protect the environment and enhance the firefly-viewing experience, the farm enforces a daily visitor limit. Be sure to call ahead and make a reservation before your visit.
