You don’t have to wait for autumn to enjoy poetic red foliage on Tai Ping Mountain. Every spring, the “purple-leaf maples” on both sides of the central staircase at Tai Ping Mountain Lodge sprout vibrant purple-red leaves, their fiery hues adding a splash of vivid color to the lush park landscape, astonishing visitors amidst the greenery.

The leaves of maple and maple-like trees—commonly referred to as “maple leaves” by the general public—usually change color as temperatures cool in autumn. However, purple-leaf maples are deep purple from the moment new leaves emerge. On Tai Ping Mountain, you can admire these crimson hues from April until around October, when the leaves finally fall. When spring comes again, new buds emerge, growing into those same deep purple leaves.

The purple-leaf maples of Tai Ping Mountain are mainly located along the two sides of the central staircase. This staircase ascends straight upward, and as you walk up it, sunlight filters through the leaves, casting a fiery red glow so vivid it looks like a painting. Walking up the staircase feels like strolling beneath a tunnel of red leaves, leading gradually toward the primeval forest of Tai Ping Mountain. Along the way, you’ll be accompanied by the Tai Ping Poetry Path, immersing yourself in the refreshing atmosphere of the cypress forest and enjoying the mountain scenery.
