Showa Memorial Park is located in Tachikawa City and Akishima City in Tokyo Metropolis. Established in 1983 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Emperor Showa’s reign, it was built on the site of former U.S. military facilities in post-war Japan. Covering a vast area of 165 hectares, it can be reached in just over 30 minutes by express train from Shinjuku Station.

Besides the colorful floral carpets, the park’s spacious green lawns shaded by large trees are also a highlight. (Image source / 4travel)

There are different flowers to enjoy throughout the year. In spring and summer, you can see peonies, azaleas, tulips, wisteria, poppies, nemophila, and more… creating a 360-degree kaleidoscope of blooming beauty. The cherry blossoms in spring and the ginkgo tree tunnels in autumn are equally enchanting. In addition, the park offers a wealth of well-developed facilities such as bike rentals, boat rides, and outdoor barbecue areas. Moreover, various events including annual flower expos are held here, making it the largest recreational facility in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
