Bye-bye BRT – Nine optimized bus routes make getting around Taichung easier

Recently, Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung officially announced the removal of the BRT system, replacing it with optimized bus-only lanes. The Taichung City Government’s Transportation Bureau has launched nine trunk bus lines—numbers 300 to 308—operating on these dedicated lanes. They began service on July 8, with future service frequencies doubling to an average of one bus every two minutes. Travelers can now go directly from downtown to the coastal area without transfers, making transportation more convenient.

Bus line 300 is the former BRT Blue Line. After integration and planning, nine trunk bus lines—301 to 308—have been introduced. All lines serve stops along Taiwan Boulevard from Taichung Railway Station to Providence University, including attractions such as the National Museum of Natural Science, Qiu Hong Valley, and the Tunghai Arts District. Among them, Line 302 provides direct access to the airport, Lines 303–304 go directly to Qingshui, Line 305 continues to Dajia after passing through Qingshui, and Lines 306–308 go straight to Wujhi. Additionally, buses will stop at every station within the former BRT Blue Line section, but outside the Blue Line, passengers must wave to flag the bus down. Six new stops to be added in the future (Yuánzǐ Street Intersection, Zhōnghuá Road Intersection, Ren’ai Hospital, Second Market, Chang Hwa Bank, and First Square Station) will also require passengers to signal for the bus to stop.
