Using 240 sheets of paper and 740 meters of cable, the 2015 “X-site Project” first-prize winner *The Unknown Qualia* erected a massive paper structure in front of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, creating 139 spatial images representing mountains, cities, and rooms — a painting-like world that invites visitors to the Taipei Fine Arts Museum to enjoy the most beautiful Taipei scenery over a three-month period.

Each year, theX-siteProject explores how architectural elements can reshape the “publicness of the plaza” through an art experiment program, which invites public submissions and judging to select one first-prize work to be installed in the museum’s front plaza. This year, a total of31teams participated in the competition,2015with the first prize going to *The Unknown Qualia*. Winners Chiu Yu-wen and Hsu Wei-lun explained that the work was inspired by the paintings of architect and artist Chen Chi-kwan, and attempted to transform historical imaginings of ancient cities into a meeting space between the material and the immaterial, responding to this year’sX-sitetheme “Meeting Point” (Meeting Point).
