Where’s Wally? First Ever Wally Exhibition Debuts in Hong Kong

Happiness is simply a game of hide-and-seek. From July 9 to August 9, 2015, Harbour City hosted the first major exhibition of Wally, transforming its outdoor space through giant art installations, turning Ocean Terminal's open plaza into a Wally wonderland. Visitors can see precious original drafts loaned for the first time by author Martin Handford, as well as a custom Mini Cooper from the iconic British car brand, created especially for Wally and his friends. Together with the series, Harbour City has been transformed into Wally’s magical kingdom, taking everyone back to the pure joy of discovery.

This Where's Wally? exhibition at Ocean Terminal's open plaza presents “Wally’s Lost Paradise.” After traveling through book worlds for 28 years, Wally has leapt out of the pages and landed in Harbour City. The exhibition features 48 Wally models, each with unique expressions and poses, bringing the entire series from flat pages to a vibrant three-dimensional experience, creating a Harbour City-exclusive “Wally Nation.” Not only are there giant illustrated scenes throughout for visitors to explore while resting, but you can also discover the world’s first-ever “Wally’s Secret Workshop,” recreating author Martin Handford’s desk. Here, you can admire rare original Wally scene drafts, unpublished artwork submitted to publishers, and childhood creations, all revealing the secrets behind Wally’s creation. The full series of Wally picture books, featuring 72 scenes, is also on display, inviting everyone into the whimsical world of Wally.

During the exhibition period, Harbour City Art Gallery also set up a limited-time Where’s Wally? pop-up booth. In addition to jigsaw puzzles, picture books, and other merchandise flown in from the UK for sale, there are also special limited-edition items created exclusively for this exhibition. The highlight is the licensed toy of Wally and his dog Woof. The Where’s Wally? licensed toys are rare on the market, and this version features Wally with multiple joints that move flexibly, allowing for various poses—sure to delight Wally fans and toy enthusiasts alike. Additionally, Wally has collaborated with British Mini Cooper to create a crossover experience in the corridor on the ground floor of Gateway Mall, forming a “Where’s Wally? X Mini Cooper Happy Track.” Five custom Mini Coopers have been tailored to match five different scenes, as Wally and friends set off from Harbour City to join visitors in a fun-filled adventure.
