Crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches, these beautiful sights attract many travelers to Okinawa every summer to swim and surf. Now, there's a new experience to enjoy—Okinawa’s cross-sea bridge connecting Miyako and Irabu islands, the “Irabu Bridge,” officially opened in early 2015. Spanning three and a half kilometers over the ocean, visitors can choose to walk or bike between the two shores to enjoy unique island scenery.

Irabu Island is located about five kilometers northwest of the Miyako Islands in the Ryukyu Archipelago, with a population of around 5,000. The island is surrounded by azure waters and boasts rich coastal landscapes and underwater scenery, making it a popular tourist destination in Okinawa. Before the completion of the Irabu Bridge, visitors could only reach the island by regular ferry. Now, with the bridge finished, not only has accessibility improved, but travel options across Okinawa have also become more diverse.

The Irabu Bridge is toll-free, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace on foot, by bike, or by car, enjoying the beautiful island scenery freely. Additionally, a staircase leading to the beach is located at the starting point, where visitors can admire this stunning cross-sea bridge from the sands.
