With the increasing prevalence of mobile devices, more and more travelers enjoy taking photos of the scenery along the way and sharing them on social networks. This year, Shizuoka Prefecture and Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan have thoughtfully partnered with telecom providers to coincide with the opening of Mt. Fuji climbing routes in July. From July 10 to September 10 over a two-month period, both prefectures are offering free Wi-Fi to foreign climbers ascending Mt. Fuji.

In 2015, Mt. Fuji officially entered its annual opening season in July. The “Yoshida Trail Fifth Station” climbing entrance on the Yamanashi Prefecture side opened for climbing on July 1 and will remain open until September 14. Three climbing entrances on the Shizuoka Prefecture side, including the “Subashiri,” “Gotemba,” and “Fujinomiya” trails, also officially opened on July 10 and will remain accessible until September 10.

In conjunction with the opening of climbing routes on both the Shizuoka and Yamanashi sides, this year the two prefectures have partnered with telecom providers to offer free Wi-Fi for climbers. During the opening season, climbers in need can obtain a handbook at the climbing entrances containing the Wi-Fi account and password. Free Wi-Fi service is available at eight locations, including three mountain huts at the summit and the Fifth Station, where users can access the internet for 72 hours after logging in. Additionally, Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures have thoughtfully provided handbooks in three languages: Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, and Korean for the convenience of visitors..
