In addition to visiting the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo, Studio Ghibli fans absolutely shouldn’t miss the “Shirubeshi Puff Factory,” a dessert shop personally certified by Hayao Miyazaki himself, which is not far from the museum. The shop offers a limited daily release of Japan’s only Totoro-shaped puff pastries, and their adorable design has fans going crazy.

The “Shirubeshi Puff Factory” is located in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, about a 40-minute drive from the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. With its red brick walls, wooden interiors, and sunlight filtered through the leaves outside, the atmosphere is relaxed and charming. The two-story building has a sales area on the first floor and a café space for relaxation on the second. Inside, you’ll find many decorations inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s works, allowing fans to sip coffee or other drinks while enjoying a Totoro puff pastry and slowly immersing themselves in the world of Studio Ghibli.

At the first-floor sales area, you can buy the adorable Totoro puff pastries. Though their overall shapes are similar, each Totoro comes with a unique little decoration based on its flavor. Flavors also vary by season, including matcha, chocolate, strawberry, and custard… among six options. And if one Totoro puff isn’t enough, the shop also sells cookies in the style of Miyazaki’s cartoons—shapes like chestnuts or leaves are especially popular.
