The world-renowned anonymous graffiti artist Banksy worked with multiple artists to create a theme-park-style art amusement park in the UK called “Dismaland” (with “dismal” meaning gloomy or bleak), parodying the Disney cartoon works that always bring wonderful dreams to children and adults alike. Dismaland aims to tell the world that reality is not always so perfect, and has been rated by foreign media as an “amusement park not suitable for children.”

Dismaland is located in a seaside park that had been abandoned for 15 years, about a 2.5-hour drive from London, UK. This place was once the top holiday choice for low-income families and also Banksy’s favorite amusement park as a child. Banksy and the artists repurposed discarded materials to transform the park into a dark version of Disneyland. On-site exhibits use elements from Disney cartoons to create various satirical installation artworks, such as a dilapidated castle, twisted mermaid statues... etc. Among them, an overturned Cinderella pumpkin carriage surrounded by reporters taking photos satirizes the car accident involving Princess Diana of the UK.
