As 2015 quietly draws to a close, Taipei 101 has announced its New Year’s Eve fireworks display early. To welcome 2016, Taipei 101 will present a show themed “Nature is Future,” launching over 30,000 fireworks for 238 seconds—20 seconds longer than last year, making it the longest fireworks show in history.

Since Taipei 101 began its New Year’s Eve fireworks in 2005, the spectacle has repeatedly made international headlines and attracted growing numbers of overseas visitors. This year, with nature as the theme, the display collaborates with a French team at a cost of NT$45 million, featuring 30,000 fireworks forming patterns of flowers, birds, and the ocean. The 238-second show not only celebrates the arrival of 2016 but also aims to inspire greater respect for nature and environmental awareness through its theme.

Additionally, Yida’s highly anticipated New Year’s Eve fireworks in southern Taiwan are set to deliver an 888-second, nearly 15-minute show—the longest in its history—welcoming the new year with four major themes. However, due to the Formosa Fun Coast dust explosion incident, Yida will not hold a New Year’s Eve gala this year.
