Legend has it that the Colossus of Rhodes once towered over the harbor of Rhodes, Greece, between 292 and 280 BCE. As one of the most mysterious of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it collapsed in an earthquake—unlike Egypt’s still-standing Pyramids, which remain visible today. Nowadays, people can only imagine the grandeur of the massive sun god statue through historical texts and paintings. Now, a team of professionals from the UK, Greece, and Spain—including architects, economists, archaeologists, and civil engineers—is planning to use modern technology to recreate the Colossus, aiming to restore Greece’s former glory, attract tourists, and revitalize the economy.

The reconstructed Colossus will reach a height of 150 meters, with a skin made of bronze solar panels. Inside, it will house a cultural exhibition hall, an open-air observation deck, and a revolving restaurant, making it a highly anticipated new landmark for Greece.
