The Gong Weixu Railway Tunnel, which has a century-old history in Miaoli, has recently been revitalized and redecorated by the municipal government with neon lights, transforming it into a magical rainbow tunnel. The Gong Weixu Tunnel was built in 1902 and has a history of over 100 years. The well-preserved tunnel runs all the way from downtown Miaoli through Catley Mountain to Nanshi, spanning 460 meters in length. Aside from being the only railway tunnel in the country with a fortress-like wall structure, it is also considered by many rail enthusiasts to be one of the most beautiful red-brick tunnels built during the Japanese colonial period. Recently, after the addition of colorful LED lighting inside the tunnel was featured on the Explore Miaoli fan page, it became a popular topic and local attraction.
