Chiang Ching-kuo’s former residence is situated right at the main section of the "Broken Bridge" on West Lake. Completed in 1931, the building has a history of 84 years and is a Western-style two-story brick-and-wood villa covering an area of approximately 403 pyeong. After the victory of the War of Resistance, Chiang Ching-kuo brought his family to Hangzhou in 1948, and the then mayor of Hangzhou provided this residence for the Chiang family to live in. By 2003, the Hangzhou Municipal Gardens and Cultural Relics Bureau had designated the residence as a cultural heritage protection site and kept it closed to the public for a long time. However, this year, not only has a McDonald's opened in the main building, but a Starbucks has also been launched in the auxiliary building.
