Visiting Sweden in winter, the highlight of the trip is undoubtedly witnessing the spectacular northern lights, but staying in an igloo-like ice room under the aurora would be an even more unforgettable experience. The Ice Hotel in Lapland has been built annually as a limited-time winter attraction since 1990, using frozen river water from the area and inviting designers to create one-of-a-kind accommodation spaces. When the weather warms up, the Ice Hotel melts away. This unique form of lodging has become a famous winter destination over the past 20+ years, attracting over 50,000 visitors each year for stays or tours.

The Ice Hotel has now been in operation for 26 years. Each year, it is constructed using frozen water taken from the local Torne River, opening around December and operating until spring arrives in March. To offer guests a different experience every year, the hotel is uniquely designed as an art exhibition space. This year, in addition to constructing the hotel with an irregular wave-shaped roof, plans are also underway to build a year-round solar-powered hotel featuring 20 suites, a bar, and a gallery. This will allow travelers from all over the world to visit at any time of the year, and even enjoy hiking activities in the summer.
