Accessible by cable car plus a 15-minute walk, Lake Stellisee sits at around 2,500 meters above sea level. Snow-capped peaks stretch into the distance, and from above, you’ll find the Gornergrat viewpoint. Walking around to the back of the lake on the right, you’ll be greeted by one of the most beautiful views of the Matterhorn, reflected perfectly on the lake’s surface—especially serene when the water is still. It’s one of the best vantage points to admire the Matterhorn.

Accessible by metro and located at around 2,200 meters above sea level, in summer this spot serves as a barbecue area and playground for children, while in winter it becomes a beginner-friendly ski slope. Walk to the left side of the lake, and the Matterhorn reveals itself from yet another perspective, its image shimmering on the water—another hidden gem worth cherishing.

Take the Gornergrat mountain train and get off at Rotenboden. After a short but steep hike, you’ll arrive at Lake Leisee. This small lake appears like a blue sea through the lens, with the triangular-shaped Matterhorn and the lake forming a perfect horizon line, as if a mirror has been placed on the ground reflecting the blue sky and rugged peaks. You can then follow the trail leisurely to the Riffelberg station. Along the way, wildflowers dot the path, the Matterhorn stands to your left, the air is crisp, and with every joyful step, you can fully enjoy nature’s splendid gift.
