Chen Shu-hui, General Manager of the Freight Service Department of Taiwan Railways Administration, said the idea for the Railway Hotels was inspired by European and Japanese trains. From among Taiwan’s 225 stations, eight were selected — Keelung, Qidu, Xinwuri, Yuanlin, Pingtung, Chaozhou, Xincheng, and Yuli — to establish “Railway Hotels” using interior and surrounding spaces of each station. These hotels will feature decor themes and services centered around the human touch of Taiwan Railways, with compact yet charming rooms. They are expected to come in two types: budget and business. Budget hotels will incorporate local characteristics and offer around 10 rooms. For larger railway stations, the hotels will take the form of business accommodations with about 20 to 30 rooms, aiming to make it more convenient for travelers to move around with their luggage.
