The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum is expected to officially open on December 28. To celebrate the most significant cultural development in Chiayi over the past 60 years, the Chiayi County Government has specially planned the “Palace Opens the Chiayi Gate, Enjoy the Art and Lights” event, which will run for 66 days starting December 19 until the Lantern Festival next year.

The “Palace Opens the Chiayi Gate, Enjoy the Art and Lights” event is divided into two main parts: “Light Zone Exhibits” and “Performance Activities.” The “Light Zone Exhibits” are installed in front of the Chiayi County Government and along the 1-kilometer-long Prince Avenue, featuring eight themed light zones. These mainly highlight Chiayi’s distinctive local produce and cultural landscapes, combined with Asian art and culture as thematic elements, showcasing modern art and environmental sustainability. Zones include the Bell Tower Light Zone, the County Government 3D Light Sculpture Zone, the Joyful Light Zone, the Agricultural Light Zone, the Themed Story Light Zone, the Religious Light Zone, and more. Among them, the “3D Light Sculpture Show” has invited Hexogon Solution from Singapore to serve as the artistic director, creating a spectacular 3D light show lasting at least 10 minutes. The show uses the architectural features of the county government building, integrating local cultural products and Christmas elements, and presents them through a combination of light, shadow, and animation.

The “Performance Activities” will be held from December 19, 20, 24–27 (a total of 6 days) between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM on the stage area in front of the County Government Bell Tower. Acts include the Korean girl group “Cat Drum Show,” MRG Magic and Fantasy Circus, Mirror Theater Troupe, Shake It Stunt Art Troupe, Power Station, Chairman, Jivas, and the new band “Fire Extinguisher,” all performing live during different time slots.
