The much-anticipated Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum commenced trial operations on December 28, 2015. In addition to offering free admission by reservation for the first three months, tickets were also made available from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on opening day for residents of Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan counties. These limited-entry tickets required visitors to present identification to confirm their place of residence and queue for them. Ticket collection began on the afternoon of December 27, with a limit of two tickets per person and a total of 1,000 tickets available, until they ran out.

No online modifications or cancellations can be made after 12:00 PM the day before the visit. Visits for groups of fewer than nine people require individual reservations.
