Send off the sunset and welcome the dawn — experience Tainan’s New Year countdown trilogy all in one go

You don’t have to travel abroad to enjoy New Year’s Eve. To welcome 2016, the Tainan City Government, in collaboration once again with the Yunlin–Chiayi–Tainan and Siraya National Scenic Areas, has launched a New Year’s Eve Trilogy, inviting everyone to plan a trip on the last day of 2015 to watch the sunset at Beimen Salt Fields, attend the New Year’s Eve party at Tainan HSR Station in the evening, and then head to Erliau for the first sunrise of 2016 and take part in the New Year’s Day hike at Hutoupi Reservoir, offering fun from night to morning and a joyful welcome to the new year.

The first part begins at Beimen Jingzijiao Tile-Pond Salt Fields, where you can bid farewell to Taiwan’s last sunset of 2015, expressing gratitude for the past year and sincere blessings for the future. As the setting sun casts its glow over the mosaic-like tile-pond salt fields, it resembles a beautiful piece of art — breathtaking and awe-inspiring. Then head to the square in front of Tainan HSR Station to join the lively “2016 Tainan Heart Era” New Year’s Eve Party, counting down to 2015 with joy and excitement as you cheerfully welcome 2016. Finally, go to Zuozhen Erliau, the lowest-altitude sunrise and sea of clouds viewing spot in Taiwan, to greet the first ray of sunlight in 2016. Admire the stunning beauty of the sunrise emerging behind the layered peaks — the perfect start to the new year.
