The 2015 New Taipei City Happy Christmas Town event came to a close on January 3, 2016. Carrying on the joyful and heartwarming atmosphere, the most internationally representative event in Taiwan — the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival — will then kick off with great festivity during the Lunar New Year holiday. To warm up for the “2016 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival,” an interactive activity called “Childlike Fun Fingerprint Sky Lanterns” was held at the New Taipei City Civic Plaza from 1 PM to 5 PM on January 1–3 during the New Year holiday break. Participants who completed the print could receive a small souvenir.

The “2016 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival” breaks away from previous visual designs. The main visual invited an illustrator to create a purely hand-drawn style, specially incorporating fingerprint art, to convey the warm and happy imagery of sky lanterns. Each person’s fingerprint is unique, symbolizing that the wishes written on the lanterns are the most special ones belonging to each individual. Abroad, newlyweds also invite guests to leave their fingerprints on a wishing tree as blessings. For the 2016 Sky Lantern Festival, it is hoped that countless fingerprints will carry abundant blessings up to the heavens.

The first event of the Sky Lantern Festival centers around the theme of “childlike fun,” inviting everyone to help complete the 8TN main lantern. Therefore, during the New Year holiday period, the “Childlike Fun Fingerprint Sky Lantern” activity was specially held to collect fingerprints from people of all ages, jointly creating the design of the first main lantern. The many blessings carried in these fingerprints will also rise with the main lantern, spreading happiness across the world.

The first event is on February 11 (the fourth day of the Lunar New Year) at Jing Tong Elementary School, the second event on February 14 (Valentine’s Day) at Pingxi Junior High School, and the third event on February 22 (Lantern Festival) at Shifen Square.
