Tainan’s Moon Lake Harbor Light Festival Kicks Off, Creating a Nighttime Art Gallery

The annual Moon Lake Harbor Light Festival officially launched on January 30th, this year themed “Moonlight Treasure Box, Shining Jinjin,” showcasing the charm of Yanshui as if it were a sparkling treasure box. The entire light zone covers the Moon Lake Harbor area and features a record-breaking 57 main light installations, with 45 domestic and international artists participating together to present a 30-day visual feast.

The 2016 Moon Lake Harbor Light Festival light zone includes the Moon Lake Harbor area, the Public 18-2 selected light area, as well as historic streets and alleys such as Qiaonan Old Street, Wangye Temple Lane, Yiyin Lane, Liancheng Lane, Xiude Prayer Pavilion, and Octagon Building. The exhibition is divided into four themes: “Qiaonan Moonlight Sonata” reflecting Yanshui’s past, “Moonlit Blossoms” echoing the present, “Auspicious Moon of Moon Lake” connecting traditional festivals with contemporary art, and “Parting Clouds to Reveal Moon Lake’s Colors” symbolizing the future.

In addition, the 2016 Moon Lake Harbor Light Festival offers a rich variety of surrounding events, including the lighting ceremony, weekend music performances and street artist shows around Moon Lake Harbor, a water lily carving exhibition and skill workshops at the Qiaonan Old Street Visitor Service Center, as well as window paper-cutting workshops in Yanshui alleys and floral displays on Xinyi Road. The annual Moon Lake Harbor Light Festival, held during the Spring Festival in recent years, combines innovative art with local cultural charm to create a dreamy, romantic atmosphere akin to a “nighttime art gallery,” becoming a new highlight of the domestic Spring Festival celebrations.
