Double-decker buses are a common memory for many travelers to Europe, but now you can experience them in Taiwan without going to Europe. Taiwan’s first double-decker bus is planned to hit the road in Kaohsiung in the second half of this year. The double-decker bus route will primarily cover major attractions in Kaohsiung, including Dream Mall, Pier-2 Art Center, and West Bay, as part of the city's efforts to promote urban tourism.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications stated that after opening up applications for open-top double-decker sightseeing buses, approvals have been granted to Taipei City, Taichung City, and Kaohsiung City. Among them, Kaohsiung City has been the most proactive, with plans to introduce the buses in the second half of this year, becoming the first city in Taiwan to operate a fleet of double-decker buses.

The double-decker bus service in Kaohsiung has been operated by Kaohsiung Bus. The main route covers major tourist spots in the city, including Dream Mall in Asia New Bay Area, Pier-2 Art Center, West Bay, and the Kaohsiung Municipal Central Library. The total route spans 17 kilometers and takes about 50 minutes, with a tentative ticket price between NT$200 and NT$250.
