Asia’s Largest Sand Sculpture Festival: Hyper-realistic Works Stretch for One Kilometer

Taiwan’s first giant river sand exhibition – the 2016 Nantou Maoluo River Sand Sculpture Festival debuts, themed “Legends of the Century”. Featuring 28 international masters using up to 500 tons of Maoluo River sand, five major exhibition areas recreate legendary sceneries stretching one kilometer long, including a 60-meter-long sand dragon, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and other imaginative works, offering visitors a visual feast.

The 2016 Nantou Maoluo River Sand Sculpture Festival is being held from now until March 6 at the Maoluo River bank near Lumei Bridge in Nantou City. Sand sculpting masters from various countries take advantage of the cohesive nature of Nantou’s river sand to create lifelike characters. Centered around the theme “Legends of the Century”, they have crafted five major themes: The Great Century Battle, Fantasy Wharf, Elf Market, Angel Garden, and Dream Castle. The one-kilometer-long exhibition site features a mix of Eastern and Western elements along the way, such as castles, dragons, elves, and Sun Wukong, immersing visitors in a fantastical kingdom of sand.
