Traveling to Kyoto? There's a new attraction to explore. Tsutaya Books in Daikanyama, once selected as one of the world’s top 20 bookstores, has opened a branch in Kyoto after previously setting up stores in Hokkaido and Osaka.

Located right next to Heian Shrine, Kyoto Okazaki Tsutaya Books was transformed from the former Kyoto Kaikan. With a space of 100 tsubo (approximately 330 square meters), the store uses an abundance of wooden materials in its decor, along with warm lighting and flooring that incorporates elements from traditional townhouses—every detail radiates the essence of Kyoto. The space is divided into four themed areas: “Culture,” “History,” “Lifestyle (暮らし),” and “Food.” Here, “Lifestyle” refers to everyday living. Through these thematic sections, visitors can experience Japanese life and culture from various perspectives. The modern architectural design of Kyoto Okazaki Tsutaya Books also showcases the beauty of Japan’s traditional arts and culture to both domestic and international visitors.

In addition to books, the store offers all-day dining services, as well as spaces for an art gallery and a café, allowing visitors to enjoy the charm of life in a classic atmosphere. Furthermore, bicycle rentals are available here, enabling guests to use the store as a base for exploring and getting to know Kyoto.
