Based on the snowfall conditions during 1999 (year 98 in Taiwan’s calendar) and current weather reports, Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters states that due to the low temperature warning and sufficient moisture this weekend, there is a chance of snowfall in areas above 1,000 meters in elevation. Those planning to go to Yangmingshan to view the snow should be aware of traffic control information. During consecutive holidays, Yangde Boulevard will have controls in place from 8 AM to 3 PM at the Fuxing Bridge entrance, where small passenger and cargo vehicles without permits are already restricted from ascending.

Provincial Highway 101A (Bailaka Highway) is narrow and winding. In the event of snowfall, to prevent excessive vehicles from entering and causing congestion and danger, the Fourth Brigade of the 7th Battalion of the National Police Agency’s Security Police Corps will set up traffic control points at the entrance of Yangjin Highway leading to Provincial Highway 101A and at Datun Nature Park. Vehicles equipped with snow chains will be allowed through depending on traffic conditions, while all other vehicles will be prohibited from entering.Motor vehicles and motorcycles are prohibited from using the Datun Mountain Road except for official and media vehicles.
In response to potential snowfall in the Yangmingshan area, Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters has issued guidelines titled “In the Event of Snowfall, Traffic Control Details on the Public Transport Authority Website.” Currently, there is no snowfall reported. Due to the current low temperature warning, traffic control is highly likely, and bus routes will be adjusted flexibly according to actual conditions. As part of the first phase, Yangjin Highway (Provincial Highway 101A, i.e., Bailaka Highway to Zhonghu Combat Readiness Road) will initiate traffic control and prohibit vehicle access if road surfaces become icy. As part of the second phase, depending on the volume of vehicles on mountain roads, traffic control and guidance will be initiated at the base of the mountain, also coordinating with the existing holiday permit controls on Yangde Boulevard (from 8 AM to 3 PM at Fuxing Bridge, controlling uphill traffic).
Be sure to confirm the following before departure:
1. Conduct a thorough inspection of your vehicle, ensuring there is enough coolant and windshield washer fluid, and add antifreeze as needed.
2. Check the tire pressure and tread depth of both your tires and spare tire, or consider installing snow chains.
3. Snowy roads increase the risk of skidding; maintain a greater following distance for safety.
4. Ensure your vehicle’s lights are on during poor weather conditions.
5. Run the heater while driving to prevent condensation and fogging on the inside of the windows.
Since the Yangmingshan area is served by the 108 Sightseeing Bus and various hiking trails connecting different recreational spots, and because mountain roads are narrow with limited parking, Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters has coordinated with Taipei City Government’s Department of Transportation’s Public Transport Division to arrange for additional bus services. Visitors planning to go up the mountain for snow viewing are encouraged to use public transportation and hiking trails to avoid traffic congestion and ensure an enjoyable trip. Also, be sure to dress warmly and stay safe, and check traffic updates before setting off.
