It’s common for visitors to Japan to take a railway tour, but this time, railway fans don’t need to fly all the way to Japan — the ‘Grand Railway Exhibition’ is right here at Taipei’s Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. The exhibition brings precious models from four major Japanese railway companies: JR Central, JR East, Keikyu, and Seibu, to Taiwan. The exhibition runs from January 16 to April 17. Fans of railways should seize the opportunity to visit.

The highlight of the exhibition is an ultra-cool maglev train experience imported from Japan. Based on real maglev technology, the ‘simulated maglev train’ lets you take the controls of the ‘TETORO’ railway interactive toy to get a first-hand taste of future tech. Other attractions include the legendary Dream Star EF-510, the ultra-popular Dr. Yellow, the Shinkansen series including the Nozomi and Hikari trains, as well as trains from around the world.

The exhibition also features rare Japanese trains such as limited express trains, sightseeing trains, Shinkansen, and sleeper trains, along with world-famous railway vehicles. Visitors can explore detailed timelines to learn about railway history and admire the various unique models. There’s even a chance to dress up as a train conductor and take photos with your favorite locomotive — becoming a train driver is no longer just a dream.
