This year’s Chinese New Year holiday lasts nine days, and many people are planning to travel abroad. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued six reminders, urging everyone to pay special attention and prepare adequately before departure to avoid disappointment.

● Confirm the visa and entry requirements of your destination country. Even if it is a country that offers visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival for China, you must ensure all relevant travel documents are in order, including hotel reservation records, contact details of local friends or relatives, and an itinerary.
● It is recommended to complete the “Overseas Travel Registration” on the Bureau of Consular Affairs website. In the event of a major disaster or other emergencies, overseas missions can use this information to promptly contact you or your family and provide necessary assistance.
● Since overseas medical expenses are generally much higher than in Taiwan, it is advisable to purchase suitable travel insurance before departure to prepare for any unforeseen circumstances.
● Be sure to check in advance whether your passport is valid for at least six months. If not, apply for a renewal or replacement as soon as possible.
● It is recommended to follow the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official LINE account (@boca.tw) to receive real-time updates on overseas travel alerts.
● Download the “Travel Abroad Rescue Guide” app to access important travel-related information anytime.
Recently, due to frequent incidents such as shootings, violence, terrorist hostage takings, and attacks worldwide, travelers are especially advised to avoid countries or regions prone to terrorist attacks. While traveling abroad, remain vigilant at all times, keep in touch with family, and in case of emergency, contact the nearest Taiwanese overseas mission as soon as possible. Alternatively, family members in Taiwan may notify the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs Emergency Contact Center” at 0800-085-095 to receive prompt and appropriate assistance.
