Traveling to Kenting Without Traffic Jams: Taiwan’s Most Scenic Coastal Road in Pingtung Opened

After nearly 10 years of construction, Pingtung County’s Chengcheng Township coastal scenic road has officially opened to traffic. It is expected to alleviate weekend congestion on Provincial Highway 26 between Haikou and Fu’an Temple, and will help divert vehicles heading to Kenting, the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, as well as those traveling to Sichongxi and Hengchun—potentially shortening travel times by over 15 minutes.

The coastal scenic road project in Chengcheng Township, which spanned nearly 10 years from 2006 to 2015, has finally opened to the public under the shared anticipation of the entire Hengchun Peninsula. The new scenic road is set to boost local tourism, religious activities, and regional industries. It also connects to the coastal highway, Ping-E Highway, and County Highway 199, balancing development across the eastern and western parts of the region. Once the scenic bridge is illuminated, it is expected to become a new landmark for Chengcheng.

The scenic road is designed to be 25 meters wide, including a 15-meter-wide vehicle lane, a 10-meter-wide scenic and leisure walkway, and a coastal bike path. Once fully operational, travelers will be able to drive seamlessly from Haikou in Chengcheng all the way to Guishan in Houwan, the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, Wanlitong in Hengchun, Hongchakeng, Baisha, and Dapengtou, linking up the entire west coast of the Hengchun Peninsula and making coastal travel between Chengcheng and Hengchun more convenient.
