The well-known Japanese tourist attraction “Tateyama Kurobe,” beloved by Japan travel fans, has announced that it will open for the season on April 16 this year. The “Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route,” which turns into a hotspot for tourists every April, connects Toyama Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture in Japan, running through the heart of Chubu-Sangaku National Park. Once snow clearing is completed, the route is declared “open” and fully operational. The entire 37-kilometer stretch, featuring snow walls up to 15–20 meters high, is truly spectacular. It is expected to remain open until June 22, 2016.

Known as the “Japanese Alps” or the “Roof of Japan,” the “Tateyama Kurobe” route is open to traffic from April to November each year. Within this route, at an altitude of 2,450 meters, lies the Murodo Plateau, which boasts an unusually large amount of snowfall rarely seen anywhere else in the world, with snow accumulation reaching up to 20 meters. After snow removal, a particularly magnificent 500-meter-long view known as the Snow Valley (also called the Great Snow Valley) is revealed. Visitors can get off here to take a walk and experience the sensation of being surrounded by towering snow walls in the great valley. This year’s “Tateyama Snow Valley Stroll” event kicks off on April 16 and runs until June 22. During this time, visitors can stroll along the path while admiring snow walls over 10 meters high on both sides. The stunning views also exude a romantic atmosphere within the silver-white snow world.
