The much-anticipated New Taroko Hello Kitty painted train made its inaugural run on March 21, departing from Shulin Station at 10:38 AM. A maiden voyage ceremony was held prior to departure. In support of the government’s vigorous push for international tourism marketing policies, Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA), EVA Air, and Sanrio Taiwan collaborated to drive development in both land and air transport. Representatives from all three parties were also present at the event. In addition to the lucky passengers who had inaugural ride tickets and were thrilled to board the first run, many railway enthusiasts gathered at the scene, and numerous unsuspecting passersby also stopped to seize the rare photo opportunity.

Drawing on the successful experience of EVA Air’s Hello Kitty painted planes, Taiwan Railways Administration, EVA Air, and Sanrio Taiwan collaborated on the authorization for painting the newly purchased Taroko train cars, launching the uniquely designed “New Taroko Hello Kitty Painted Train.” It has become a vibrant and innovative marketing model for the railway transport industry.

The train body paintings are based on the design concept of “Connecting Taiwan with the World Through Hello Kitty.” The eight carriages are designed to take travelers on a journey starting from northern Taiwan, around the continents of Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa, and both the northern and southern parts of the Americas, before returning to eastern Taiwan. They also cleverly incorporate elements from EVA Air’s seven Hello Kitty painted planes. This integration of rail and air travel offers international visitors to Taiwan more diverse experiences.

In addition to the exterior design, to reflect the friendliness of TRA service staff, Sanrio specially designed an exclusive conductor-themed Hello Kitty for TRA, incorporating TRA’s professionalism and passionate mission, along with Hello Kitty’s cuteness and popularity. Hello Kitty the conductor can be seen throughout the carriage interiors, seat covers, and carts, creating an atmosphere where she accompanies passengers on their journey. From the moment they board, travelers are immersed in a joyful, dreamlike trip. There are also three types of commemorative stamps available onboard and on the inaugural day – don’t forget to collect them if you’re a stamp enthusiast.
