Children's Day Holiday: Go Firefly-Watching in Kaohsiung’s Top 5 Travel Picks

The four-day Children's Day holiday is just around the corner, and the Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau has thoughtfully introduced five spring-themed travel ideas, including the “Neimen Songjiang Battle Array,” “Shoushan Zoo,” “Tianliao Devil’s Valley,” “Namasia Firefly Watching,” and “Explore Kaohsiung for NT$50,” inviting everyone to visit Kaohsiung and enjoy the warm vibes of spring.

The “Neimen Songjiang Battle Array” is Taiwan’s largest traditional performance festival. From April 2 to 10, it will be grandly held at Neimen Shunxian Temple. This year, it features a first-ever Badlands Fun Run, as well as exciting activities such as a campus performance troupes competition, a traditional music and martial arts showcase, a national fitness routine competition, a water dance and fireworks show, a chef-hosted banquet, and historical guided tours—offering an in-depth experience of traditional performing arts culture. At “Shoushan Zoo,” the alpaca family has recently welcomed new members: five baby alpacas named Coffee, Milk, Hazelnut, Cube Sugar, and Chocolate, which together form the “Café Family.” Their adorable looks are super heartwarming. From April 1 to 5, the zoo is offering free admission for children under 12, along with a kids' drawing and coloring contest and an adult stress-relief drawing competition. Come celebrate the holiday with the animals and also visit the Shoushan Lovers’ Viewpoint to take in panoramic city views.

The “Tianliao Devil’s Valley” features badland terrain and mud volcano landscapes. This year, the tourism bureau specially trained elementary school students from Chongde National School to serve as guides. From April 2 to 5, a total of eight guided tours will be conducted by these junior guides, taking visitors to explore the wonders of the badlands. Every April is the peak season for “Namasia Firefly Watching.” Visitors are welcome to hike and enjoy forest bathing, experience local indigenous culture, and savor seasonal specialties and gourmet meals.
