Following the huge popularity of the Budai High Heel Church, local authorities in Chiayi recently planned to introduce a “Diamond Church.” However, concerns have been raised as the proposed site is near a wetland and a bird migration route, potentially impacting local ecological conservation, sparking skepticism and discussion.

In 2015, the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Management Office originally planned to build a “Diamond Church” with a diamond ring design theme next to the new Xm field office at the Budai Salt Field. However, as the location was close to a wetland area and could affect migratory bird habitats, it faced opposition from conservationists. As a result, priority was given to constructing the High Heel Church at Budai Seaview Park. Now that the High Heel Church has become a hit, successfully generating local buzz and business opportunities, and even becoming an annual photo hotspot, the plan for the Diamond Church has resurfaced. Local legislators have expressed hope that the project can proceed with low-impact development, balancing tourism growth and ecological preservation.

The Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Management Office stated that although there is interest in building the Diamond Church, it must not impact wetland conservation and must have local cooperation. Therefore, before a site is finalized, any opposition from conservation groups will result in the plan being set aside. The office will respect local opinions and will not proceed with construction until a consensus is reached among all stakeholders.
