The love Taiwanese people have for Ghibli animations is evident—from the enthusiastic rush to buy merchandise when the Acorn Republic store opened, to the fact that the Mitaka Ghibli Museum always attracts a large number of Taiwanese visitors. In appreciation of this support, Studio Ghibli, in collaboration with the event organizer United Daily News, after two years of preparation and effort, has confirmed its first-ever exhibition in Taiwan this summer. From June 18 to September 18, the grand 【Ghibli’s Animated World】 exhibition will be held at Huashan 1914 Creative Park.

Exhibition of over 23 classic scenes from 9 animated films—largest scale yet
The organizer, United Daily News, stated that this exhibition gathers the largest number of classic scenes from Ghibli’s most popular animated films to date. In addition to offering an unprecedented scale, visitors can also enjoy more than just viewing “Castle in the Sky,” “My Neighbor Totoro,” “Kiki’s Delivery Service,” “Princess Mononoke,” “Howl’s Moving Castle,” “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind,” “Porco Rosso,” “Whisper of the Heart,” and other classics in one place. For the first time in Taiwan, the exhibition will also showcase precious manuscripts from “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya,” as well as exclusive merchandise designed specifically for this Taiwan exhibition. Fans are sure to enjoy plenty of photo opportunities and shopping delights.

Large-scale three-dimensional scenes make you feel like you’re inside a Ghibli animation
Once inside the exhibition hall, all scenes are presented through large-scale three-dimensional displays, making visitors feel as if they are truly inside the world of Ghibli animations. You can wait for the bus alongside life-sized Totoro, Satsuki, and Mei; sit next to No-Face and ride the train together; witness Howl’s Moving Castle actually come to life; join Pazu in trying to save Sheeta in Laputa: Castle in the Sky; or walk into the fantastical bathhouse with Chihiro... Some scenes even use differently sized three-dimensional exhibits to recreate the sense of space and distance as depicted in the animations, perfectly bringing the worlds imagined by Ghibli back to life.

Designed and supervised by Studio Ghibli, all exhibits imported directly from Japan
All scenes and exhibits in the special exhibition were designed and supervised by Studio Ghibli, then shipped directly from Japan for on-site assembly in Taiwan. To fully recreate the enchanting atmosphere of Ghibli animations, the studio also invited more than ten of Japan’s top professional film set production teams to Taiwan. Aside from repositioning and arranging all exhibits, they fine-tuned every lighting, sound, and projection device, and even used hand-painted techniques to recolor and adjust the walls and floors of all scenes. The exceptional level of detail and craftsmanship in this exhibition is truly remarkable.
