The once incredibly popular Panasonic EH-CNA97 hair dryer, which almost everyone in Japan seemed to buy and was even out of stock at one point — so much so that it was impossible to buy even if you had the money — may now be dethroned. Dyson’s newly launched Dyson Supersonic applies its patented Air Multiplier technology to a hair dryer, creating a brand-new product that is lighter in weight, more powerful in airflow, and equipped with a built-in temperature sensor chip to dry hair quickly without damaging it.

The Dyson Supersonic retains Dyson’s signature minimalist design. Unlike conventional hair dryers that place the motor behind the air outlet, Dyson has positioned the motor in the handle, allowing the airflow to be focused and delivered at a 20-degree angle for faster drying. It also offers users a more balanced grip compared to traditional hair dryers.

However, the Dyson Supersonic comes with an equally jaw-dropping price tag. It is priced at 48,600 Japanese yen in Japan, available in two colors — peach pink and white — which equates to about NT$15,000, enough to buy nearly three Panasonic EH-CNA97 models. It is expected to launch in Taiwan as early as the end of July.
