The foreign-language film that won three special awards at the Venice Film Festival—[Sicily’s Long Wait] is set to be released in Taiwan. Produced by renowned Italian producer Nicola Giuliano, 50-year-old Nicola is the mastermind behind many of today’s important films. His producing credits include [The Great Beauty], which won Best Foreign Language Film at both the Oscars and Golden Globes. This marks his debut as a feature film director, winning three special awards right out of the gate.

The film tells the story of Anna, a woman who moves from France to Italy after marrying, and after divorcing her husband, she lives alone in the scenic Sicilian countryside. The only company in her grand mansion is solitude. One day, Giuseppe’s girlfriend, Jeanne, unexpectedly shows up, claiming she was invited by Giuseppe to Sicily to join him for the Easter holiday.

Anna enjoys cooking for her guest and taking her to explore hidden spots around Sicily. The once-empty grand villa seems to come back to life… As Easter approaches, the entire island is immersed in traditional festive spirit. The two women wait patiently in Sicily, awaiting Giuseppe’s promised return.

Juliette Binoche, who has won the Best Actress award at Cannes, Berlin, and Venice film festivals, agreed to star in the film after reading the script during the early production phase. She even boldly told the director, “I don’t need to ‘act’—I am the character.” During filming, she delivered an even more impressive performance than ever before. Her emotional journey—from initial restraint and coldness to heartfelt sincerity by the end—won over everyone on set and earned high praise from international media.
