Japanese retail giant Mitsui Group entered Taiwan this year, opening its first large-scale shopping mall in Linkou District, New Taipei City, in January. Recently, it announced plans to build its second Mitsui Outlet Park at Taichung Port. Optimistic about the market potential of central Taiwan, the company aims to create an "authentic outlet shopping destination," with operations expected to begin as early as the end of 2018.

The Linkou Mitsui Outlet Park achieved nearly NT$1 billion in sales during its first month of operation, surpassing revenue expectations. The company is also continuing its expansion plans, targeting consumers in central Taiwan. The second Mitsui Outlet Park will cover approximately 18 hectares and is expected to introduce more retail outlets and restaurants to attract visitors.

Central Taiwan will also see the “Outlet Mall” planned by the Lihpao Group in Houli, which will feature not only a mall and a Ferris wheel but also a racetrack. The ATT Group is also planning to build a hotel, mall, and facilities such as a Ferris wheel near Taichung High-Speed Rail Station, which is expected to generate further buzz in central Taiwan in the future.
