Travelers to Japan now have a new option. Taiwanese ferry operator "Lina Ferry" is set to launch a regular route between Su'ao and Ishigaki Island on July 4. The two locations are only 250 kilometers apart—closer than the distance from Taipei to Kaohsiung—and it will take just three and a half hours to reach Ishigaki Port in Japan from Su'ao Port. With the addition of this regular route, it is expected to boost tourism development and cultural exchange between Taiwan and Japan.

On May 14, Lina Ferry conducted a trial voyage from Hualien to Ishigaki Island. A delegation led by Legislator Hsiao Bi-khim, along with local officials from Ishigaki Island, participated in exchanges as part of testing the waters for launching a regular flight, aiming to stimulate tourism development in eastern Taiwan. Starting July 4, a weekly one-way trip will be offered between Su'ao and Ishigaki Island. Initially operating as a chartered voyage, departures will be at 7:30 AM from Su'ao, arriving in Ishigaki at 12:00 PM local time, with the return trip departing at 7:30 PM and arriving back at Su'ao Port at 10:00 PM Taiwan time..

With the opening of the Su'ao-Ishigaki route, Taiwanese travelers now have a new way to reach Japan. The ferry also allows unlimited luggage weight—a great opportunity for shopping trips—or even bringing bicycles onboard for a cycling adventure around Ishigaki Island. This provides more diverse travel options for visitors and helps promote tourism development between both destinations.
